This month, Volunteer State Community College students will be able vote for the next president of the Student Government Association. Students interested in running for the office of president must attend a mandatory informational meeting Monday, March 1, at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Club Center of the Wood Campus Center.

Current SGA President Maytee Vinces stated that all candidates running for president or vice president must have at least a 2.75 grade point average.

A GPA of 2.0 is required for candidates running for the Senate.

To run for any position, students must pick up, fill out and return the SGA election packet.

There are packets available in Student Services and in the Student Life and Diversity Initiatives Office in the Wood Campus Center.

The packet lists all requirements, demands and deadlines.

All candidates must obtain 30 signatures in support of his or her run for office.

The signature sheet is provided in the packet along with all other needed information.

March 5 is the petition sheet and election packet deadline. The packet also lists all other deadlines that must be met, and all mandatory events.

The candidate debate will be March 22, and the final election days will be March 29 and 30. It's a campaign, according to Jamey Campbell, coordinator for student activities.

The students vote and elect the president. Posters and flyers are allowed and encouraged, and may be posted around campus to help support the candidates.

Students interested in becoming involved with the SGA can contact Maytee Vinces at podchaser@msn.com, or Jamey Campbell at jamey.campbell@volstate.edu.
