The expansion of Volunteer State Community State's Livingston campus is now complete.
Jan. 28 marked the campus's open house. The event was a celebration of the culmination of the more than 4 years of hard work it took to transform the campus into a new state of the art facility.
"We are really excited to provide a great learning facility for students to use for years to come," said Eric Melcher, coordinator of communications and public relations.

"I am very excited as a Volunteer State Community College Foundation board member and previous Allied Health faculty, to see the new facility in Livingston have its grand opening. This facility will offer economic growth and quality of life for the community," said Sen. Diane Black, who was present at the ribbon cutting for the new facility.

Enrollment at the Livingston Campus has been on the rise for the last five years. There were 252 more students enrolled fall 2009 than fall 2004. The new Livingston complex will help support the expectation of continued enrollment growth at the Livingston Campus.

Some of the features of the Livingston campus include more classrooms featuring the latest technology, a science lab, a library, a NewSkills computer lab, among others. Many of the new classrooms have been designed with Allied Health programs in mind.

The public of Overton County is enthusiastic about the new facility, as a majority of the expansion was funded through their donations.
"When a community can get together to raise the funds, it really shows the support and what people believe in the facility," said Melcher.

"It's a real testament to the hard work of the people in the community," Melcher added.
