If students have questions about donations or the PTK Haiti Relief Fundraiser, they can contact Jones at sjones84@volstate.edu.

"Americans have always stood ready to help those in need, whether in our own country or throughout the world. We are a very compassionate and generous country," said Dr. Monique Robinson-Wright, director of student life and diversity initiatives.

"Vol State students, especially student leaders, look for opportunities to help. There has never been a catastrophic event that has happened, while I have worked at Vol State, that students haven't tried to offer their assistance whether financial or by volunteering," continued Wright.

"I believe Vol State has done a great job of collecting money to donate to the American Red Cross. Also, I believe many individuals are also working with their churches and civic organizations to help," she added.

"People give money for anything. Extra change ends up on the floor in your car, or just laying around. Why not give it to people who need it?" said Vol State student Josh Lovett.

"Each American dollar roughly breaks down like this: 42 cents for disaster assistance, 33 cents for U.S. military aid, nine cents for food, nine cents to transport the food, five cents for paying Haitian survivors for recovery efforts, just less than one cent to the Haitian government, and about half a cent to the Dominican Republic," according to the Associated Press.

Who knew that one dollar could do so much?
