Continuing Education offers unique non-credit classes

Companies and employees go to him for workforce development training. The business and industry department also offers the essentials for nurses, EMT's, real estate agents, and other professionals to maintain their licenses.

We have "technology centers throughout the state for nursing in Hartsville. They end up with a license or certificate," says Jankiewicz. "I look at continuing education as the provider of the lifetime learning. You come back to us to continue the education of that area of expertise, gain additional knowledge; sometimes it's required to maintain your license"

One can also turn to Gibson Hall for small business training.

"Anyone that owns or wants to start a business can do a one-on-one training on any topic they want to discuss" said Charles Alexander, director of Tennessee small business development centers.
"Say you wanted to start a business you might not be interested in the bookkeeping or reading a financial statement. That's a whole other job. That's what we try to do," he explained.

"TSBDC also offers free small business workshops. Go to tsbdc.org for all of our upcoming workshops," said Alexander.

There are two sects to continuing education: learning for the sake of gaining skills, and learning for the sake of business improvement.


"We're planning to offer more (classes) in Livingston. Primarily, classes meet here (at Vol State's main campus). If we have requests, we can do that too," said Haley.
