Pioneer dance team tires to expand membership

The Volunteer State Community College Pioneer Dance team will perform at homecoming on Saturday. at half time.
"We are trying to get more involved with the boys baseball and girls softball teams as well as basketball," said Stacy Womelduff, sponsor of the dance team.
"I have been looking into some competitions, and I sent out packets to coaches of area high school dance teams to recruit more girls," added Womelduff.
"I also sent out e-mail blasts to all the students. This is only our third year. Our first we had four girls, then the next year we had 10, and this year we started out with 12 girls, but we are back down to 10," she said.
Merry Banzhoff is the captain of the dance team.
"We need more people, and there is always room on the team. The hard part is just getting the word out," said Banzhoff.
Banzhoff creates all the routines, sets up the time for practices, and finds the costumes. Sierra Bruner is co-captain of the team and helps with the organization.
"The matter of funding will be a problem in the near future because we are technically a club, and we put in for money, but we have tryouts in the last few weeks of September," said Womelduff.
"Our season starts in Oct. and ends the second week of Feb., So we are only operating for four short months, and we miss SGA meetings causing us to be on probation a lot of the time," Womelduff said.
"It's just hard to get the word out and to get the funding when we are a club that is only open for four months. We still do volunteer work twice a year. We do the Casa Dodgeball Tournament in the spring, and it benefits abused children," she added.

I think that it is good that pioneerv dance team increases membership.
