Every end has a beginning
Issue date: 4/27/09 Section: Opinion
So, another semester is coming to an end. The last couple weeks of school is always overwhelming. But once it is over, we all know it was totally worth the hard work.
Hopefully, this semester you learned some new things. Also, we hope The Settler benefited you throughout the year.
Our goal this year was to revolve The Settler around the students. It is a student paper, we did not want to write stories for the faculty. We wanted to print things we, the common students, are interested in.
Some people were not happy with our paper, but oh well because this is something we put our hearts in. This is a learning experience for all of us at The Settler.
Mistakes have been made and the whole school has seen them. But we have learned from them. Just like we hope the rest of the students can learn from their mistakes.
We all make them. Most students' mistakes don't get printed in the newspaper though.
Whether you are leaving Volunteer State Community College to transfer, start your career, or take some time off, don't forget what this school has done for you.
A lot of people think Vol State is a joke or like high school.
We would have to disagree.
Our professors here actually know our names. Since this school is smaller than universities, we are able to have more relationships with teachers and students.
Don't ever let people tell you that your college experience was not a real one. We can do anything anyone else can do.
And we encourage you to do just that. We hope that you have been reading our paper and questioning the world around you.
Summer time is right around the corner. Get out of this town for a little while. Explore some of this world.
Gallatin is a small town, but a great town. It is home to many of us. This does not mean we shouldn't venture out.
This summer challenge yourself to try something new, travel somewhere new. Don't go to Panama City again, why not go to the west coast?
Wherever you go, remember to be safe, but get out of your comfort zone.
The only way to truly live this life, is to experience all it has to offer first hand.

This is exactly what I'm doing this summer... Except my summer challenge involves leaving the country!

Great advice, this is exactly the mentality and perspective graduating students should have. Go out and see the world, if you have the opportunity.

Im headed to Panama myself. The country that is. I think you will enjoy it more than Florida as well.
