Delta Psi Omega is a nationally recognized theater honor society for two year schools and the sister society for Alpha Psi Omega for four year schools, said Steve Parnell, president of Vol State's chapter.
It is the largest Greek society in existence, said Parnell.
Delta Psi Omega's job around campus is "to stimulate and support theatrical activities around campus," said Parnell.
After the April 2006 tornado that hit the campus, Delta Psi Omega wasn't active in the campus community. With the theater construction coming to a close, the group is looking to get back into the swing of things.
Delta Psi Omega is now recruiting members.
"This year's group is actually impromptu. I'm just getting it off the ground. So I've been trying to reach out to people anyway I can. We've got anywhere from about 15 to 20 people actually signed up," Parnell said.
To be nationally recognized in the society, there is a $30 fee, but to join VSCC's local chapter there is no cost.
The group has yet to decide on an official meeting routine, but is working on getting one done as soon as possible. Students can be on the look out for the group's first full production Jan. 30 and 31 in the theater.
Students interested in showing creativity, and possibly earning some cash, Delta Psi Omega is hosting a film contest.
The contest will consist of short films, three to 10 minutes, of any genre and must be PG-13.
"We want to see creativity and ideas come to life," Parnell said.
The deadline is Oct. 17 and winners will be announced Oct. 24.
Students interested can contact Edmon Thomas at 230-3226.
