After its victory on Tuesday against Calhoun Community College, the team's overall record is 15-14.
This comes on the wake of a 1-9 start for a team with high expectations for the 2008 season.
The production on the offensive side has really stepped up recently. The Pioneers won Tuesday by a score of 17-7.
"We are really starting to hit and were not letting up," said freshman pitcher Jordan Smith.
The team is playing well and its confidence is much higher than it was during the early part of the season.
"We are starting to get production from the middle of the order, and our team is very confident right now," said Head Coach Mike Crossland.
Freshman pitcher Eric Gilley turned in a fine performance on Monday against Lindsey
Wilson.
He gave up no hits, no runs and earned the victory.
Spencer Nelson has thrown four complete games in a row for the Pioneers as well.
"We are playing with a different attitude and we're happier to be there," said Smith.
The Pioneers face a real test in its next series. They will take on the Senators from Walters State Community College. The Senators come into the series with a record of 26-5 and a number two national ranking.
"It is going to be a good series, and I would be surprised if we didn't win it," said Crossland.
Not only is this a big game for the current players but it will affect future prospects considering Vol State.
"Walters State is a big time game within our conference but also in recruiting," said Crossland.
"Everyone is very excited about Walters coming to town. We beat them two out of three last year, I am sure that Walters will remember that and come in here ready to play," said Athletic Director Bobby Hudson.
