The TNADE award was presented to Dayton for her lifetime contributions to the field.
Dayton has a total of 21 years experience in developmental education and 11 years have been spent in college orientation and counseling.
"I am very honored and humbled because it is an honor award that comes from your peer group," said Dayton.
Dayton was nominated by a former student Fran Hensley who is now a student advisor.
"I thought of Kay right away," said Hensley after reading the criteria for the award.
Among requirements is a minimum of five years in the field, a record of service provided by a peer group and the nominee must be a TNADE member, Hensley continued.
"I felt great support from the people I work with," said Dayton. "In developmental studies, you feel you have a greater impact on the students you work with while they are on their way to success."
Students in New Skills have nothing but good things to say about Dayton's services to the program.
"Every time I see her she is smiling and in a good mood," said student, Becky Morgan.
"Kay is very supportive for adult education and that is a huge deal," said student, Jaquiline Birchall. "It is hard to come back to school after 23 years and get support like she gives."
