Elkin Brown, adjunct instructor of humanities, released a compact disc of Celtic music called "Eireann in her Eyes."

The CD is available in the campus bookstore and profits from the album will go to the recent tornado damage relief efforts.

Brown said he plays the guitar and cittern and sings on the CD.

Cindy Wyatt, adjunct instructor of humanities, is another contributor to Brown's music.

She plays harp for some of the tracks on the CD.

Her husband, Charles Wyatt, joined in on the flute.

Cady Finlayson plays the fiddle on the CD as well.

According to www.mindspring.com, Finlayson is a well known Celtic fiddle player.

The CD was made of love and legacy: two things that Brown said are important to him.

On the cover is a picture of Brown's wife, Billie.

Brown stated that the desire for the project was years in the making.

Brown wanted to learn to play a cittern after hearing it and thinking to himself, "God, the sound is gorgeous. I would love to play one."

Brown said he had to wait to save enough money to purchase his cittern and eventually bought the instrument in the United Kingdom.

Brown said that he once had a career as professional guitarist for performers such as David Allan Coe and Stonewall Jackson.

"This CD represents a rare opportunity to hear authentic Celtic music played by seasoned (ahem) musicians as well as original composition in the Celtic style by a local composer, [Brown]," said Wyatt.

"An even more important reason [to buy the CD] is that Celtic music is uplifting, even if you don't know it originated in Ireland centuries ago. People move their feet, they bounce to the rhythms, their hearts open to the poignant melodies and harmonies. It is a rich emotional experience no matter where you are from or how old you are," continued Wyatt.

Brown and Wyatt can also be seen playing Celtic music in the Great Hall of the Hal Reed Ramer Administration Building.

Samples of Brown's music can be found at www.MySpace.com/ElkinBrown.
