We are well aware of the adversity within Haiti caused by the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that occurred on January 12. However, are we willing to help the people affected? According to CNN World, "The Haitian Health Ministry has the latest estimated death toll at 150,000, and 194,000 as the number of people injured.
On Jan. 12th a 7.0 earthquake struck Port-au-Prince, Haiti and literally destroyed the country. Thousands of buildings, homes and lives were lost. The current number of deaths is unknown because there are still missing people and with every passing hour they are losing more lives.
The expansion of Volunteer State Community State's Livingston campus is now complete. Jan. 28 marked the campus's open house. The event was a celebration of the culmination of the more than 4 years of hard work it took to transform the campus into a new state of the art facility. "We are really excited to provide a great learning facility for students to use for years to come," said Eric Melcher, coordinator of communications and public relations.
Continuuing Ed Department is Expanding The many non-credit courses Vol State offers are managed in the Betty Gibson Hall (formerly the 500 Building), through the Continuuing Education department. Though Continuuing Ed dooesn't issue credits they do issue exam certification (for businesses), licenses (real estate agents, nurses, EMTs), six sigma green belts and black belts (not Karate, this is business training certificates from quality business gurus), and much more.

There will be something new this semester and maybe for every semester hereafter. A new strategy is being implemented to help first year students feel more at home in the college environment. This new front is called FYE, or the First Year Experience, the first of this new installment was last week with the introduction of the Hospitality Suites.
