On Wednesday, Oct. 28, the Student Government Associated held a forum that gave students the opportunity to ask questions of the Volunteer State Community College faculty. Questions included issues on parking, smoking on campus, and energy conservation. "Parking on campus is limited," said student Amy Mitchell.
Wednesday, October 28, slam poet Carlos Robson performed in the Weymess Auditorium. Robson performed several poems on a variety of different topics such civil rights and freedom. Robson, who grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, began doing poetry in High School.
Mrs. Tanya Fort-Daniels is fairly new to Volunteer States faculty. Although this is only her second year at Vol-state, she has actually been teaching for five years total. Daniels has always loved the Spanish language and its culture, but growing up she didn't always want to be a Spanish teacher.
This year's African American Student Union's Halloween Party was cancelled for the first time in over 20 years. The club consists of the President, Deondra Moore, and no other students. Due to the lack of involvement, Deondra decided to cancel the event rather than continue, and it not live up its expectations.
Service learning is a way that students can learn and develop skills through participation in thoughtfully organized service experiences that meet actual community needs that are coordinated in collaboration with schools and communities. Service learning provides students with the opportunity to acquire new skills and knowledge in real life situations.
