The cliche that you don't get something for nothing has never been more evident than when considering tuition increases imposed by the Board of Regents for this school year. The 8 percent hike will mean another $257 per semester for the average student. But administrators shouldn't be criticized for making the tough choice to improve Western, although it means students might have to choke down a few more Ramen noodles.

As a journalist, one of the first things you learn is to expect the unexpected. I suppose I should have taken that lesson to heart yesterday when I expected to bike to the Herald office, the sun on my back and the wind in my face. MTSU was for me, at first, a place of transition. I left my university in New York-confused about which direction my academic career would go-and returned home to spend a semester on the familiar campus in the town where I grew up.
I ended up finding my home, my place, and my passion at this school.

Looking back on high school and the dreadful cafeteria food, along with satisfactory education, things weren't too bad, but recently high schools have begun developing "freshman academies" in an attempt to completely isolate freshmen.
Their logic behind these academies is that if students are isolated during their freshman year then they are more likely to pursue their education until graduation.
